Charcoal and pencil on paper
Created as a commemorative commission, this work serves as a bridge between presence and memory. When a companion who has shared our daily lives passes away, they leave behind an energy that refuses to be silenced. This portrait is an attempt to capture that enduring vitality—the “still alive” essence of a beloved spirit.
My goal was to provide my friend not just with a likeness, but with a presence. By “taking this world in our hands”—even the painful parts involving grief—we can use art to heal. This piece is intended to be a sanctuary of sight, where the viewer can look into those familiar eyes and feel the warmth of a connection that death cannot diminish.
